The Task
You will need to complete a variety
of tasks before, during, and after the Civil War Gateway journey. They
involve the following responsibilities:
Before the Journey-Reading
and Research
Choose an identity from the identity list. Report your identity to your Gateway guide (instructor).
Read a historical fiction book from the Book Club Booklist that matches or closely matches your identity.
Complete the Book Club Report Form after completing your reading.
Meet with others that share the same identities. There should be no more than 6 to a group.
Research information on the Civil War using at least 5 websites.
Complete the Information Search Chart.
During the Journey-Writing,
Recording, Gathering Images, and Mapping your Journey
You will keep a daily personal journal that will record your experiences. You may search for information with classmates of like identities but you must each turn in an individual, unique personal journal. Write your experiences through your five senses!!!
This journal needs to be organized into a booklet form. Be creative!
Your detailed experiences in your journal will begin before the Civil War, so that you will be able to describe how your life has changed prior to and following the Civil War events.
Include a map in your journal
that traces the footsteps of your journey. This map can be drawn or graphically
created.
You will include 9 journal entries (3 before, 3 during, and 3 after the war) and 5 photos from your experience and include them in your journal. (before, during, and after the war).
After the Journey-Reporting
and Sharing
You will form new Gateway Groups-this time with classmates of diverse identities.
You will read your personal journals to your new Gateway Group
Your group will create a Power Point or Hypermedia presentation using the Storyboard Format.
Your Gateway group
will present this to your classmates upon your safe return through
the Gateway Tunnel.
